ACCOMPLISHMENTS
 

The Children’s Clinic (TCC) continues to grow and establish new sites and programs to better serve children and families in the community. Some of last year’s activities and accomplishments are highlighted below, illustrating the essential role TCC has played in the health care of the Long Beach community.

  • Provided over 55,000 patient visits to over 17,000 children and adults.
  • Cared for over 80% of the most severely disabled low-income children in Long Beach.
  • Currently participating in the Advanced Access Collaborative to help reduce patient waiting times and to offer patients same day appointments.
  • Partnered with the Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services to provide a group support program for patients with diabetes through the Latino Diabetes Prevention and Management Program, utilizing promotoras.
  • Continued to address the improvement of health and well-being for children with asthma through the Long Beach Alliance for Children with Asthma (LBACA) program and TCC’s Asthma Program.
  • Participated in the Community Partners Countil, a collaboration designed to improve the health and well being of residents in the community.
  • Promoted achievable healthy lifestyle changes through the Healthy Lifestyles Program by teaching the impact of obesity through educational materials, staff education, and patient referrals to partnering programs including those of the Long Beach Health Department.
  • Awarded two AmeriCorps* VISTA members from the Corporation for National Service. The AmeriCorps*VISTA members coordinate volunteers for the Reach Out and Read program, as well as assist with health education and outreach activities.
  • Provided over 11,000 immunizations through the Immunization Outreach Project, a collaboration between The Children’s Clinic, the Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services, schools, and HeadStart sites throughout Long Beach.
  • Provided Lion’s Eye CLinic services at over 1,000 visits.
  • Implemented a Lead Poisoning Prevention Program at Clinic sites.
  • Participated in countywide Disaster Preparedness Training and Education.
  • Recognized in the community, receiving awards from Blue Cross and the Community Clinic Association of Los Angeles, in addition to the Gene Lentzner Humanitarian Award and the Excellence in Public Health Service Award.
  • Lectured, consulted and collaborated locally and nationally on children’s health issues and provided national leadership in community pediatrics.
  • Involved in the Americans in Motion – Healthy Interventions (AIM-HI) study created by the American Academy of Family Physicians to address the increase in overweight and obesity among adults.
  • Currently transitioning to a system of electronic health records (EHR) that will allow digital versions of patient records to be stored and transmitted within the clinic and across sites. The EHR sstems will ensure a continuity of care for patients shared between the Long Beach Memorial Medical Center Hospital, specialty centers, and TCC’s clinic sites.
