IMMUNIZATION ACTIVITIES
Immunization Shot

The Children’s Clinic has a successful history in reaching and helping the most underserved children and realizes the importance of emphasizing immunization awareness and delivery. Activities include:

Special free “Fast Track” Walk-in immunizations at The Children’s Clinic five days a week, with immunization tracking and recall, parent education funded by the State of California Immunization Project Subvention Contract administered by Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (LBDHHS).
School site Walk-in Immunization clinics held five days a week
Long Beach Knight Foundation Immunization Awareness Project awarded to The Children’s Clinic and a community coalition in October 1994. The project’s goal was to raise immunization rates through public education and awareness.
Knight Foundation Immunization Initiative Transition grant awarded to TCC in March 1997 for immunization education activities in Long Beach Unified School District and bridge funding to sustain the Long Beach Immunization Coalition. 
SUCCESSES OF COLLABORATIVE IMMUNIZATION ACTIVITIES
Community forum delineated reasons for low immunization rates and proposed solutions.
Developed broad based community coalition committed to increasing awareness regarding need for timely infant and toddler immunizations.
Established local hot-line 570-“SHOT” in English, Spanish, and Khmer to inform residents of free immunization sites and times.
Distributed educational message in three languages integrating state building block campaign "2,4,6,12,15 month" message in various public locations such as schools, stores, neighborhood centers, and buses.
Increased immunization rates overall in Long Beach from 30% in 1993 to 71% in 2000 for children under two.
Integration of many project activities into LBDHHS Immunization Action Plan (LAP).
Recipient of 1996 California Coalition for Childhood Immunization Golden Building Block Award.
Developed immunization education modules taught to elementary children and parents. 

The Children’s Clinic is a non-profit, free-standing community medical clinic;
serving Long Beach, South Bay, and surrounding communities.
